Workcation Malta.

A workcation in Malta means working remotely from the island for a few days or weeks, with a desk by day and the sea after work. Malta is in the EU, on Central European Time, and English is an official language. Many people split the stay: a few days on the main island, then a quieter, more focused stretch on Gozo.

An idea

Two weeks: one on Malta, one on Gozo

This is an idea, not a package. You book flights, stays and passes yourself, directly with each provider.

How long

A week, a month or longer?

A week is enough to try the rhythm. Two to four weeks lets you settle: you find your café, your route and your hours. Beyond that, paperwork starts to matter.

As an EU citizen you move freely, but a stay of more than three months can mean registering, and tax and social-security questions come up for employees and companies. As a non-EU citizen, visa and stay rules apply. This is general information, not legal or tax advice: check the official sources and use our planner checklist as a start.

Getting around

Bus, Bolt, ferry: do you need a car?

You can live well without a car in both places. Buses and Bolt cover most trips, and the Gozo Channel ferry connects the islands. If you rent a car, remember that Malta drives on the left. Check timetables and prices with the providers, they change.

Practical

Small things that make the first day easier

  • Plugs are the British three-pin type (type G), bring an adapter
  • English works almost everywhere, and Maltese is the other official language
  • You are on Central European Time, easy for clients in Europe
  • Pack for sun and for wind, evenings by the sea can be cooler
  • Download your tickets and bookings before you land

Plan it

Cost, checklist and a desk

Our free planner estimates the cost of your stay, recommends the right pass and gives you a checklist for EU and non-EU travellers. The Gozo Guide covers the island in depth, including the honest downsides.

FAQ

Workcation Malta: frequently asked questions

Is Malta good for a workcation?

Yes, if you value sun, English as an official language, Central European Time and an easy flight from much of Europe. Choose the main island for city life and Gozo for calm and focus.

Do I need a visa to work remotely from Malta?

EU citizens move freely. For non-EU citizens, visa and stay rules apply, and a stay of more than three months can need registration or a residence permit. This is general information, please check the official sources.

Where can I work in Malta?

In coworking spaces, cafés or your accommodation. A coworking desk is more reliable than a kitchen table. Our space is Workspace Gozo in Victoria on Gozo, planned to open in Q1 2027.

Can I stay on Malta and work on Gozo?

It is possible, but the ferry adds time every day. Most people either stay on Gozo while they work there, or split the stay: first Malta, then Gozo.

Do I need a car?

No. Buses and Bolt work for most trips on both islands. If you rent a car, Malta drives on the left.

What does a workcation in Malta cost?

It depends on stay, season, flights and how you live. Our free planner gives you a range per item and a total for your dates and group size. They are estimates, not offers.

Do you book flights and accommodation?

No. We rent desks and provide information. You book flights, stays and experiences directly with each provider.
